A Wild Setting, Far From the Crowds

Plage du Layet is nothing like a developed beach. No parking on the sand, no shops right next door, and no overwhelming summer crowds. Nestled in a protected cove in Le Lavandou (Var region), it has preserved a natural character that is rare along this highly frequented stretch of the French Riviera. Umbrella pines reach almost down to the water, the reddish rocks of the Corniche des Maures frame the scenery, and the quiet is broken only by the sound of the waves.

It is precisely this preserved atmosphere that inspired my illustrated poster of Plage du Layet: a place that invites you to slow down, to blend into the landscape rather than show off in it.

How to Get to Plage du Layet Naturist Beach

Access to this Var naturist beach is exclusively via the coastal path, the famous Sentier des Douaniers that winds along the entire Corniche des Maures.

There is no direct car access to the beach itself, which largely explains why it remains quieter and more respectful than neighboring beaches.

Practical Tips:

• Parking: No parking on-site. You need to park on Avenue du Professeur Paul Emile Duroux and continue down on foot.
• Amenities: A beach hut (Chez Jo) offering sun loungers and umbrellas right on the beach.
• Shade: Natural shade is provided by the umbrella pines at the back of the beach, which is very welcome at the peak of summer.
• Crowds: Note that many regulars arrive early in the morning to claim the front line. Be sure to arrive early to get a good spot.

Who is This Naturist Beach For?

Le Layet is primarily for those seeking a peaceful naturist experience, far from the large seaside resorts. The walk down naturally filters the crowd: you will mostly meet local regulars from the Var coast and passing hikers. The atmosphere is friendly, respectful, and unpretentious.

The best time to visit is spring and early autumn, when the light is soft and there are even fewer people. In high summer, the beach remains very enjoyable, but arriving early in the morning is essential to make the most of the tranquil setting.

The Coastal Path: Much More Than Just an Access Route

The coastal path leading to Le Layet is part of a larger trail running along the Corniche des Maures, offering breathtaking views over the Mediterranean Sea and the Golden Islands (Îles d'Hyères) in the distance. This portion of the Var coastline features several coves accessible only on foot, each with its own character. Plage du Layet is undoubtedly one of the most discreet and iconic among them.

Why I Chose to Illustrate This Place

When arriving on this beach, what struck me was the contrast between the road, the path, and the reward of rediscovered silence. This kind of place, which requires a little effort to reach, deserves to be celebrated as more than just a quick souvenir photo.

That idea guided the drawing of the poster: honoring a place you don't just stumble upon by accident, and extending the memory of this sanctuary of freedom in your own home.
