Right from the access road, the tone is set: the route leading to the village winds through landscapes bordered by magnificent prickly pear cactuses — traditionally used for cochineal farming. A timeless arrival that immediately plunges you into Lanzarote’s unique atmosphere.
In Charco del Palo, naturism is not just a beach option reserved for a secluded corner: it is the very heart of the village. Life flows here in absolute calm and total serenity. Here, clothes-free living is an everyday, effortless experience.
It is also the perfect starting point for wonderful nude hikes along the wild coastline, whether heading north or south.
💡 Insider Tip: To explore the volcanic seafront while nude hiking, leave simple flip-flops behind! Since the basalt rock is very sharp, pack lightweight walking shoes or sturdy sandals suited for rocky terrain, even though a sandy path allows you to stroll between the rocks.
The Three "Natural Pools": The Spectacle of Ocean and Rock
Here, you won't find vast stretches of fine sand, but rather a rocky coastline shaped by lava and carefully arranged to create three natural swimming spots of striking beauty, often called the "natural pools" (los charcos).
One of the village’s finest spectacles is undoubtedly the Southern natural pool. Sitting there to watch the tide gradually fill the basin is a hypnotic experience: as the Atlantic water rushes in, shades shift between emerald green and an amazingly clear azure blue.
For swimming and lounging, the black volcanic stone shelters — typical of the Canaries — allow you to take refuge comfortably from the wind to enjoy the sun all day long, even when the sea breeze picks up.
Practical Tips for a Successful Stay
- Where to Stay: My top recommendation for an unforgettable experience is to rent accommodation on the seafront. Waking up to the vastness of the Atlantic and the contrast of black lava is simply magical.
- Location: The village is located in the municipality of Haría, between the towns of Mala and Guatiza. A rental car is recommended to explore the rest of the island. The local Canary Islands rental agency CICAR offers excellent value for money!
- Nearby: Take advantage of your stay to visit the Jardín de Cactus, a sublime creation by César Manrique located just a few minutes away.
